ibook case painting

It’s been done and documented by many others before me (most notably by the crooklyn kid hisself, perdedor). Far from blazing a new trail, i was merely following a well-worn one and decided to branch off onto this one.

Decided to go with a medium-dark grey and an off center black stripe, so after the white stuff came off with denatured alcohol and elbow grease. Hours of cursing and masking followed by some inhalation of paint fumes got me to the crucial part of the process.

The bottom half here already has its stripe painted and covered, the top half is about to receive the battleship grey rustoleum.

And finally after reassembly, it’s back and operational. In fact, i can actually close the lid whenever i want.

And man alive that’s a huge improvement over stock.

It ain’t 110% perfect, as the black paint bled through the masking tape a little, the plastic battery cover got a bit too scuffed in a spot and the battery lock icon got scrubbed off, but i’m still happy as hell with the way it turned out.
